Happy New Year! There's a lot more to explore here. For example, the coefficient of restitution! If you work for the MLB and would consider letting me in on some baseball science I'd be game. P.S. Besides the obvious answer of Cal Ripken Jr., who was your favorite baseball player as a kid?
Also, thank you to everyone who supports Smarter Every Day on Patreon. I really appreciate it.

Maybe it is interesting to talk about why spy planes dont have right agle triangles in their design so they dont be seen on the radar. It is the same as reflecting bits on your bike. Light or soundwaves dont travel back if a angle is not right angled.

you "engineered" the bat turning machine. they need to do the math for the pitcher's box because I'll guarantee that the bat flying off that spindle will fire through that sheet of plywood like it was a sheet of paper.

Just in case nobody mentioned it, those “record” numbers by Mantle and Ruth are tall tales. The Mantle one was debunked years ago by (I believe) a physicist.
Furthest I have seen was either McGwire or Judge. McGwire hit some BOMBS.

Why didn't you put a remote controlled feeder on the pitching machine? Even with the steel grating in front of the pitcher's shield, if the end of an aluminum bat hit it at 250 mph. there would be shrapnel flying through the grating. You could also time the pitches with the remote, perhaps getting more sweet spot strikes.
