      Since we live in a true winter climate and do work outside and play outside a lot, diet is not in our lifestyle. And since we do not participate in the holidays that many use as a way to legitimize gluttony, then our diet does involve higher caloric foods because we actually lose weight during this time of year. And when your daytime high temperature can be in the 20sF, then more calories, please!

    Don't put cloves in this.

    If you want more SAVORY flavors, try shitaki mushrooms.


    No clue where the taste for cloves came from, maybe from swilling pig dicks.

    To all who wants more info on this soup, watch The Chef Show on Netflix. Look for the episode "Extra Helpings with Dave and Babish", I think. Roy Choi and Jon Favreau made the soup with Andrew and it's really in depth. It's a really great show, by the way.

    I lack sherry and am vegetarian. Could I use vegetable broth instead of beef? And what can I substitute the sherry for? Only alcohol we have is my mom's chardonnay, and it is the cheap stuff. Can I just leave it out? This is coming from someone who only just learned to cook an egg about a week ago. Kind of pathetic at 22 years old, but I am trying.
